On July 14, AL FATTAN Holding Investment confirmed the project site for the green hydrogen and ammonia plant, which is being developed in collaboration with LTechUVC, a partner in the green ammonia business.
The project site, covering approximately 2.45 million square meters, is designated for a 200MW green hydrogen and ammonia plant. Geographically, it is located near the Barakah nuclear power plant and features port facilities within the site, making it an ideal location for maritime transportation of the produced ammonia.
AL FATTAN Group and LTechUVC are promoting the solar-powered 200MW green ammonia manufacturing plant project through their special purpose company (SPC), AL FATTAN-LTechUVC Green Energy.
Since the end of 2022, the companies have progressed through a series of agreements, including an MOU, an investment agreement, and the establishment of the SPC. In May, AL FATTAN invested $20 million for this project. In June, a four-party business agreement was signed in Jeollabuk-do, South Korea, involving Jeollabuk-do, AL FATTAN, AL FATTAN-LTechUVC Green Energy, and LTechUVC, to establish the largest green hydrogen and ammonia supply hub in Korea through the Saemangeum New Port. Both companies are currently undergoing various licensing procedures related to the project and plan to commence construction in January 2024.
The companies stated, "With the project site confirmed, we will accelerate the project's progress and establish a green ammonia supply hub to become a global company that reliably supplies high-quality green ammonia, in anticipation of the upcoming global ammonia era."
